Replacement laptop keyboard HP COMPAQ Pavilion DM1-3000 DM1-4000

The keyboard is very well made, especially considering the price. One button is raised slightly more than the rest, but that's about the only fault I could find in terms of quality. The bigger issue however, is compatibility and mounting. It doesn't fit my laptop (HP Pavilion dm1-3110en) out of the box. It has plastic latches on the top edge, which the original keyboard doesn't, and I had to cut away with a razor in order to insert it into the laptop housing properly. Also, plastic latches on the bottom edge are thicker than those on the original keyboard, so I had to thin them to proper height. Finally, screw fittings don't match those on the original keyboard either. Stands are shorter and require M2 x L5 mm screws, while the original screws were M2.5 x L4 mm. The smaller, longer screws required don't come included with the keyboard, and the very small thread size makes them rather hard to find outside of specialised electronic part stores. While the two side screw mounts align to holes in the laptop chassis perfectly, the one in the middle does not. I had to remove it completely (which required the use of pliers and sandpaper), then I used double-sided Scotch tape to prevent the keyboard from lifting up in the middle. Overall, it took quite a bit of work to make everything fit (as far as that's possible with a part that doesn't quite fit my device), but considering that original parts for this laptop model aren't available from the manufacturer any more and the fair asking price - I am quite happy with this purchase.
